    Recommended starting settings

    • Temperature: 195–200°C
    • Pressing time: 300–420 seconds
    • Pressure: Light to medium
    • Artwork: Mirror before printing
    • Cooling: Allow to cool naturally on a flat, heat-resistant surface

    Photo rocks are considerably thicker than standard sublimation blanks and absorb more heat. They therefore require a longer pressing time.

    Printing instructions

    1. Remove any protective film from the coated surface, if present.
    2. Clean the printable surface with a soft, lint-free cloth.
    3. Mirror the artwork and print it onto sublimation paper.
    4. Allow the printed transfer to dry before handling it.
    5. Position the transfer face-down against the coated side of the photo rock.
    6. Secure the paper with heat-resistant tape to prevent movement.
    7. Place clean blowout or parchment paper above and below the product.
    8. Position the photo rock according to the heat-press or supplier instructions. Press orientation can vary between heat presses and slate manufacturers.
    9. Press at 195–200°C for approximately 300–420 seconds using light-to-medium pressure.
    10. Carefully remove the photo rock using heat-resistant gloves.
    11. Allow it to cool naturally on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
    12. Remove the transfer paper carefully without sliding it across the surface.

    Important Printing Tips

    • Always conduct a test press before completing a full production run.
    • Use only enough pressure to ensure firm and even contact.
    • Heavy pressure may crack or shatter the natural rock.
    • Use fresh protective paper for every press to prevent unwanted ink transfer.
    • Do not move the transfer while the product is hot, as this may cause ghosting.
    • Avoid rapid cooling, as sudden temperature changes could damage the rock.
    • The ideal time and temperature may vary according to the heat press, sublimation ink, transfer paper and coating.
    • Heat-resistant gloves are essential because the photo rock remains extremely hot after pressing.
